Gus Michaels is the youngest in a family of seven siblings. At age five, Gus’ father Gus Jr., a civil engineer, relocated the family to Tehran, Iran in 1975. In Iran, Gus learned snow skiing and gained a global perspective at a young age. In late 1977, the family relocated to Evergreen, Colorado where Gus graduated from Evergreen High School in 1988.

After a year studying fish and wildlife management at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, Gus opted for warmer weather and transferred to the University of Colorado-Boulder intent on one day attending law school. Gus graduated CU in May 1993. After graduation, Gus worked a year at Isaacson, Rosenbaum et al., a large real estate and civil litigation firm in Denver, where he was exposed to the inner-workings of a large firm. True to his aspirations, Gus began law school in Los Angeles, California in September 1994.

In California, Gus was fortunate to clerk two years for a local real estate, small business, and litigation practitioner in Manhattan Beach, California. The beach and mild weather was nice, however two years of fighting traffic, pollution, and over-population were more than enough to point Gus back to the Rockies. Gus finished law school at the University of Denver, where he excelled in environmental and natural resources course work.

After graduating law school in May 1997, Gus began his life in private practice joining a seven member firm in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Just five days after joining the Wyoming firm, Gus’ life as an associate started with a bang as Gus’ and his senior partner survived a small plane crash in North Platte, Nebraska. Gus relocated to Boulder in October 1999 and founded GRMPC in February 2000 intent on forming a cutting-edge 21st century firm. Gus’ hobbies include golf, mountain climbing, ice hockey, and being a new father.
